Rainha Elizabeth II congratula irlandeses pelo St. Patrick’s Day

A rainha da Inglaterra, Elizabeth II, enviou congratulações aos irlandeses por meio de uma carta ao presidente da Irlanda, Micheal D Higgins. Ela aproveitou para relembrar que sua última visita ao país foi há dez anos, em 2011.

No texto, ela ainda envia “os melhores desejos para o povo da Irlanda”.

O presidente Higgins respondeu às congratulações, ressaltando as “conexões entre nossos dois países em todos os níveis”. “Sabemos que o Dia de São Patrício será celebrado no coração de gerações de irlandeses que moraram na Grã-Bretanha e de seus amigos e familiares britânicos.”

Ambos finalizam suas cartas com dizeres gaélicos. Elizabeth escreveu: “Lá Fhéile Pádraig sona daoibh go léir”, que significa “Feliz Dia de São Patrício a todos vocês”. Já o presidente disse: “Guím Lá Fhéile Pádraig sona agus síochánta ort agus ar do mhuintir” (Desejo a você e sua família um feliz e pacífico dia de São Patrício).

This year marks ten years since my visit to Ireland, which I remember fondly, and it marks a significant centenary across these islands.
